Eating Clean

Yesterday, I picked up the July issue of Oxygen magazine to have something to read while I waited at the airport for my parents to arrive.  As I read through the articles, I noticed several mentions of the concept of “Eating Clean”, including one about an entire book dedicated to the topic - “The Eat-Clean Diet” by Tosca Reno.  I must admit that I had never really heard of this term before, but now having read up on it a little, I am finding it to be pretty interesting.

What is Eating Clean?

In Alicia Marie’s (Oxygen Fitness Model/Author) column, she describes Eating Clean this way – “If you can pick it, grow it or get it lean from your butcher, then you are eating clean”.  Pretty simple, right?  As a matter of fact, it is really just a catchy term for eating real food – not chemicals or bio-engineered food products.  Almost seems like a no-brainer, right?  Well, clearly, since the book became a National Bestseller and the fact that there is an entire magazine dedicated to Eating Clean, there must be a decent contingency of people who find this concept to be relatively new (at least new enough to invest in a book to explain it to them).

Does it work?

Well, to be honest, I don’t know from personal experience whether this specific diet really works.  Having said that, I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t.  This “diet” or way of eating focuses on consuming food in its natural state (or as close to it as possible) – lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein.  As far as I am concerned, this is a recipe for success if I’ve ever seen one.

Coming Soon…

Stay tuned for a more detailed review of “The Eat-Clean Diet” in the coming weeks (once I’ve written my reviews of two other books that I’m making my way through now).
